Manchester dance society is a student run society that offers the chance for students to either continue dancing into university or start dancing for the first time. The society has over 500 members each year and has lots of opportunities to get involved. Classes are held each week and are taught by professional teachers. We have classes in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, street, salsa, limbering, yoga and fitness, find more information on these here.
Manchester Dance society also has its own dance teams. Being in a dance team offers the opportunity to compete at dance competitions across the country during weekends and is also great fun with the socials after! Manchester university also holds its own big university dance competition each year, this year over 20 universities attended. Teams that will be auditioned for this year are as follows:
Advanced and Intermediate Ballet
Advanced and Intermediate Tap
Advanced and Intermediate Jazz
Advanced and Intermediate Contemporary
Advanced and Intermediate Street
Irish dancing (Wildcard)
In addition to classes and competitions, the dance society also puts on two dance shows a year; one at Christmas and the other at the end of the year. This is a great opportunity to get involved as each of our classes perform a dance in these shows as well as our teams. They are always good fun and a great way to keep up or find your performance skills.
Throughout the year we have society socials on top of the team socials that individual teams may have. These are always a good time and a great chance to dance like no one is watching! Finally but not at all least each year Manchester Dance Society goes on tour! This involves plenty of sun, partying and a little bit of dancing too!
